I finally figured out what funnel cake is. Silly question, I guess the
name "funnel cake" should say it all. Well, this is funnel cake
season. What is a summer without oppressively hot weather, lots
of fried carbs, questionably safe rides, “________ (fill in the blank)
Idol” competitions, and lots and lots of farm animals – all in one
place? We do jest, these fairs are a blast. We went to the Harvest
Festival in Santa Rosa a while back (and a bunch of these fairs
since then) and had a great time (all of the following are true, by
the way) – sheep dog trials, pig beauty pageants, the prettiest draft
horses you ever saw, lots of fowl, lots of home-baked goods (none
of which you can buy or sample), fried food you never thought
possible, and some great kids entertainment. Bottom line is that
your kids will love it. There are activities for the entire family.
Believe it or not, you will have fun too.
Some tips for success:
- Go early or go late. Mid-day can wilt your little flowers
quickly. Evenings, however, tend to favor older kids.
- Review the schedules as there are frequently cool events
that you may wish to plan your day around.

Rosa. Lots of animals, demonstrations, entertainment, and food.
