weather doesn't hurt (well, it hurts if it means that we will have to be

Gray’s Harbor Historical Seaport Tall Ships Visit the

We did this last year. While we didn't take the three hour tours, we
did have a great time climbing through the ships and talking with
the crews. Sure the trips can be a little pricey, but you can climb
aboard the square-rig sailing ships, Hawaiian Chieftain and Lady
Washington and learn about maritime history for free (even though
they would appreciate a nominal donation). If your kid loves pirates
or just loves sailing, this is a trip worth making. There are four

Cool Way to Spend a Sunday:
Why not make a day of it in Jack London Square?
A note on seats: you CAN go for the café tables near the
stage but they can be uncomfortable and the volume can be
loud. There are a bunch of booths just behind the café
tables – a lot more comfortable and roomy. If you can’t quite
get it together to go grab a bite and come back, they DO
have table service with a decent menu. There is a one drink
minimum – even the kids. For a complete listing of acts and

Note: Parking at Oakland is pretty easy, There is a
validated garage right next to Yoshi’s where it will cost
you about $5.75 for lunch and the show. On a Sunday, you
can also do street parking.
San Francisco’s Yoshi’s has parking under the club. You
can try your luck on the streets, but that could be
challenging.

America's most traditional Punch & Judy show is presented by
Professor Brian Patterson, and the Piccolo Puppet Players.
Founded in 1990, the Piccolo Puppet Players and their shows have
amazed and amused children of all ages for more than fifteen
years. All sorts of characters will challenge Mr. Punch, but he
always tricks his way through. Come and watch the adventure
unfold!
April 26th Hanna Banana Comes To Town!
Come and take a listen to the greatest clown alternatives this side
of the Mississippi! Here many styles of music and songs that get
the kids and grown ups dancing and singing. Experience
interactive songs, foreign languages, funny songs, folk songs, rock
songs and more

Celebrate Tartan Day and join in the pageantry as Scottish folk
from all over the area gather their clans and celebrate their
heritage. Enjoy bagpipe bands, highland dancing, traditional
Scottish food, and historic re-enactments. There will also be Clan
Society exhibits and a special Children's Glenn where they can
partake in Highland games, a traditional haggis toss, arts & crafts,
storytelling and perhaps find fairies. Special musical
performances by Peter Daldry, Culann's Hounds and the Fremont
Police Department Pipe Band.

San Rafael will celebrate spring with a healthy, fun, and silly, Alice
in Wonderland themed fair at Falkirk. There will be live
entertainment, arts and crafts, games, refreshments, costumed

Operations, California State Railroad Museum, Old

April 4th-5th is Opening weekend for the 25th consecutive year of
excursion train operations on the Museum’s Sacramento Southern
Railroad! Beginning this weekend, and continuing every weekend
through September, experience the sights, smells, and sounds of
a real, working steam locomotive as it pulls vintage passenger
coaches and converted freight cars along the levees of the
Sacramento River. Climb aboard for a relaxing 40-minute, 6-mile
roundtrip ride. Of course, the real reason to come up is to check
out the California State Railroad Museum which is an amazing trip
through our State’s history as told through its railways. Full-sized

“Fools, Clowns, and Jesters” Berkeley Rep School of

Learn the art of theatre through play the first Sunday each month
with the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre’s Family Series! These
interactive workshops are designed for families of all ages and
levels (although kids should be at least 7). Family Series
programs encourage arts awareness and exploration, nourish
team work and parent/child bonds and sustain a creative family
environment. In lieu of tuition, families attending these workshops
are asked to bring a children’s book to be donated to local
elementary school libraries.
Make merry this April fool’s month as we dance, mimic, slide, fall,
wander, chase, hop, strut, somersault, jump, glide and follow the
whimsical path of the clown. Families will play games that spark
imagination, tickle funny bones and explore jokesters throughout
history. Come join the fun and release your inner fools.
Recommended for ages 4 to adult.

The Buddy Club has an ongoing series of kids’ entertainment at
three locations throughout the Bay Area: the Berkeley JCC, the
Osher Marin JCC in San Rafael, and the Randall Museum Theatre
in San Francisco. The Buddy Club is a great rainy (or not so rainy)
day activity. It's nothing fancy, just great kids’ entertainment:
jugglers, magicians, ventriloquists, clowns, etc.The Buddy Club
shows are appropriate for all ages and can entertain older kids
and adults as well (this isn’t necessarily baby stuff). Visit their

If you haven't been to one of these family events, it is well worth it.
Not only do you have a chance to engage in a great art activity in the
awesome Koret Center on the 2nd floor (even if you don't come on
the Family Studio days, you should stop by the Educational Center
as there is always something for the kids to do and explore), you
also get to explore the wonderful Museum of Modern Art for FREE.
This weekend, join the SF MOMA to create your own miniature
theater stage as we highlight the exhibition William Kentridge: Five
Themes. Plus, enjoy a special reading of The Magic Flute: An
Opera by Mozart, adapted by Kyra Teis.

The Bay Area Discovery museum is fun enough by itself: indoor
and outdoor exploration areas, lots to occupy your child, stunning

Slide Ranch is a special place tucked into a canyon off of Highway
One near Stinson Beach. Slide Ranch is a non-profit teaching
farm. "Slide Ranch uses food as the organizing theme to teach
about our connection to the sun, soil, air, and the people who work
to feed us." The Family Farm Days are an event geared for the
whole family. Visitors can milk a goat, feed chickens, collect eggs,
learn crafts, and explore their trails and tidal pools. Pre-

Like the creepy crawlies? You can get up front and personal with a
wide range of these six-legged wonders with a lot of hands-on
activities but the kids can also engage in a wide range of bug-
themed projects as well. The attractions include a silk worm
petting zoo, live music, a termite maze, maggot (yeah, big “eeeew”)
races – you heard me, “maggot races”, a whole bunch of live
insects for you to see, touch, eat (wait, not eat), and while we are
on the subject, there will be an exhibit on insects that are eaten in
the regular course of the diets of different cultures. For the brave,
you will be able to sample fried crickets (big treats all over the

Don’t know why they didn’t just call it Don Quixote. This is the
classic and inspirational story of a man’s quest to right the wrongs
of the world - all set to a memorable score. Saturday June 13 is
the only Saturday show and has special pricing for seniors and

The Mountain Play is special. In good weather (and it frequently
is), the experience is amazing with stunning views of the Pacific.
That being said, make sure to pack layers just in case, watch the
weather reports for heat or rain, leave the lawn chairs at home, and
leave plenty of time to hike in or out as you cannot park up there.

Gray’s Harbor Historical Seaport Tall Ships Visit the
Bay Area!
We did this last year. While we didn't take the three hour tours, we
did have a great time climbing through the ships and talking with
the crews. Sure the trips can be a little pricey, but you can climb
aboard the square-rig sailing ships, Hawaiian Chieftain and Lady
Washington and learn about maritime history for free (even though
they would appreciate a nominal donation). If your kid loves pirates
or just loves sailing, this is a trip worth making. There are four
ways to experience these beautiful ships:
- Dockside Tour (FREE, but they suggest a donation of $3) –
You can tour the ship and hear what it was like to be a
sailor in the 18th century. Hours for Dockside Tours vary by

participate in a series of actual sailing adventures (Beware
the “three-hour tour” if the mate is named “Gilligan”): - Battle Sail ($40 for children under 12 up to $60 for an

hour voyage on the Bay where the Hawaiian Chieftain and
the Lady Washington (which actually was used in all the
Pirates of the Caribbean movies) engage in a mock battle
complete with cannons and intricate maneuvering for a
thrilling adventure. - Adventure Sail ($35 for children under 12 up to $55 for an
adult) 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. daily. For three hours,
passengers can participate in the operation of an 18th
century tall ship. You can, if you like, take the helm raise
sails, and hear stories of how these ships sailed the west
coast in their day. - Passage Sails – these trips are for when the ships sail
from one port to the next (from SF to Oakland ($67.50) ,
from Oakland to Sausalito ($67.50).

Cool Way to Spend a Sunday:
Why not make a day of it in Jack London Square?
- 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. traipse aboard the tall ships and
share your tales of the high seas with the crew - 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. forage for provisions and lunch at
the Jack London Square Farmers Market then stash the
booty in your car and - Take in a Family Jazz Matinée at Yoshi’s! For $20
($18 when you have an ever so convenient child with you –
who will cost an additional $5), You and the family can take
in a first class performance at an awesome performance
space. The show begins at 2:00 p.m. but the line begins
before 1:00 p.m. Here’s a hint: buy your ticket, wait in line,
get your hand stamped, take the little tags they give you,
mark your seats, and then grab lunch at the restaurant (they
DO have a nice $6 lunch for the kids, but the adult food will
cost you a lot more) or walk across the street to Jack
London Square or to any of the dozens of great restaurants
like E&J’s Barbecue and grab a quick bite there before you
head back. Of course, the music is top notch and the
performers really play to the audience.
A note on seats: you CAN go for the café tables near the
stage but they can be uncomfortable and the volume can be
loud. There are a bunch of booths just behind the café
tables – a lot more comfortable and roomy. If you can’t quite
get it together to go grab a bite and come back, they DO
have table service with a decent menu. There is a one drink

Learn the art of theatre through play the first Sunday each month
with the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre’s Family Series! These
interactive workshops are designed for families of all ages and
levels (although kids should be at least 7). Family Series
programs encourage arts awareness and exploration, nourish
team work and parent/child bonds and sustain a creative family
environment. In lieu of tuition, families attending these workshops
are asked to bring a children’s book to be donated to local
elementary school libraries.
Make merry this April fool’s month as we dance, mimic, slide, fall,
wander, chase, hop, strut, somersault, jump, glide and follow the
whimsical path of the clown. Families will play games that spark
imagination, tickle funny bones and explore jokesters throughout

wide range of these six-legged wonders with a lot of hands-on

themed projects as well. The attractions include a silk worm
petting zoo, live music, a termite maze, maggot (yeah, big “eeeew”)
races – you heard me, “maggot races”, a whole bunch of live
insects for you to see, touch, eat (wait, not eat), and while we are
on the subject, there will be an exhibit on insects that are eaten in
the regular course of the diets of different cultures. For the brave,
you will be able to sample fried crickets (big treats all over the

Slide Ranch Spring Fling, Slide Ranch, Muir Beach,
Highway One, $20 per person in advance, $75 per
family. Pre-registration required.
Slide Ranch is a special place tucked into a canyon off of Highway
One near Stinson Beach. Slide Ranch is a non-profit teaching
farm. "Slide Ranch uses food as the organizing theme to teach
about our connection to the sun, soil, air, and the people who work
to feed us." The Spring Fling kicks things up a notch with music,
organic cuisine, and farm and craft activities. Activities include
bread and cheese making, carding, wool spinning, visits with baby
goats, hikes, spring crafts and more. Slide Ranch is very popular
and their Spring Fling is a local favorite. Pre-registration is

classic and inspirational story of a man’s quest to right the wrongs

The Mountain Play is special. In good weather (and it frequently
is), the experience is amazing with stunning views of the Pacific.
That being said, make sure to pack layers just in case, watch the
weather reports for heat or rain, leave the lawn chairs at home, and
leave plenty of time to hike in or out as you cannot park up there.
